Today sharing the “Foreword” to “262 Questions Paul the Apostle of Christ Asked” by my dear friend and colleague Bekele Shanko:

Bob Tiede and Reed Davidson know how to capture our hearts and minds. That is what questions do to us. Questions inspire our hearts and challenge our minds. We all know that in a meeting where questions are involved, it is impossible for people to be passive listeners. Rather, they get fully engaged. I tend to believe that most of the time we fear questions. Don’t we?

We fear questions because they make us listen carefully, think and process information faster, be ready to give answers, and be confident in the accuracy of our answers. Questions also have the power to reveal whether we are authentic, congruent in what we say and do, who we are inside, and what others see from us.

As I read through all 262 questions, I decided to pause after each question and try to answer, as the authors have instructed us to do. It was one of the most challenging but fulfilling experiences. I felt as if Apostle Paul was sitting in front of me, looking directly in my eyes, asking me those questions, and waiting for my answers. I didn’t feel he was just asking the first-century believers in Corinth, Rome, or Thessaloniki, but also the twenty-first century Christians in America, Africa, or Argentina.

In 262 Questions Paul Asked, Tiede and Davidson masterfully take us on a journey with Paul and help us to be actively engaged with Paul and all recipients of his messages. Through these questions, we are invited to feel what Paul felt, pray as he prayed, and share with him the aspirations and concerns he had for the believers throughout the first-century Roman Empire—and now worldwide in our generation.

These questions are presented to us not only so we can scan through the pages of this small book and appreciate the way Paul led with questions, but also so we can ponder every question, go to the Bible and try to understand the context, and give our own answers to those questions. It is my prayer that God will use these questions to deepen your love for and understanding of the Word of God, to re-fire you to a new level of intimacy with God, and to refine your skills of leadership…so that you lead by asking right questions.
