Painting by Sir William Beechey

To all my American friends:

What might have been different today if King George III of Great Britain had asked the American Colonists Questions and Listened to their responses?

To all my British friends:

Please forgive the exuberance of all your American Friends as we celebrate the 4th of July!   We do understand your reluctance to share in our celebration!  But never the less, all your American Friends would love to hear your thoughts on:

What might have been different today if King George III of Great Britain had asked the American Colonists Questions and Listened to their responses?

To all my friends throughout the rest of the globe:

We would also be so grateful to learn from you!   Please share with us your thoughts on:

What might have been different today if King George III of Great Britain had asked the American Colonists Questions and Listened to their responses?

It is interesting to ponder how different actions by one person might have affected the entire course of history!

In answer to the question posed here, I would say that the USA and Canada might have become one country instead of two. If not that, we would be certainly under British rule with our own ‘spin’ on self-governing, maybe socialistic but maybe not. In any case the ‘taxation without representation’ problem would have been better addressed. None of these seem like such bad outcomes to me; certainly better than a revolutionary war. Yes, listening would have played a positive role which we will never be able to go back and find out.

    1. Thanks Malcolm for your thoughtful response. It is interesting how a different leadership style by King George III may have prevented the whole revolution.
