Honoring a Wonderful Life!

Note from Bob:  Today’s Special Post is very personal – a tribute to a man that Sherry and I greatly loved and admired  – our Cru Staff Colleague of 49 years and our Josh McDowell Ministry Colleague of 20 some years!

On Tuesday evening (September 22) at about 6 pm our Cru Staff Colleague and our Josh McDowell Ministry Colleague, John Crone entered the gates of Heaven after losing his battle with Covid.  Linda has had Covid also and was moved several days before John passed from the hospital to a rehab facility and has Covid brainfog, so even though she has been told – they are not sure she really understands.

John and Linda had 3 children – all of whom preceded John to heaven!  I am sure they were waiting at the Gates of Heaven – shouting to each other “Dad’s Home!  Dad’s Home!  Dad’s Home!’

In January, 1970, Dr. Bill Bright – founder of Campus Crusade for Christ (now called “Cru”), invited John and Linda to “Come Help Change the World!”   They came!  And they Did!

This quiet couple was responsible for more people hearing the gospel than all the people who have ever heard Josh McDowell speak in person.    They traveled the Globe to work with Cru leaders – Church Leaders – Publishers – Missionaries to oversee the translation and printing of Josh’s books around the globe with the result that over 40 million of Josh’s books have been distributed in over 100 countries! This is why we said they are responsible for more people hearing the gospel – because Josh’s books have reached many times more people than his live speaking.

John and Linda Crone – also mentored – trained our daughter and son-in-law – who now head up the publishing and distribution of Josh’s books throughout Europe (East and West).  Our daughter shared, “John was a mentor, a boss, a friend, a personal supporter, and ultimately one of our biggest fans in life and ministry.  John and Linda became family.  When our son was 2 years old, John and Linda told him that he could call them Uncle and Aunt. He told them, ‘No. I will call you Papa and Grandma.’ And from this moment, our son (now 16) became the grandchild that the Crone’s never had.”

The Josh McDowell Ministry staff have done a wonderful job of caring for John during this time and now caring for Linda.

Join us in Thanking God for the life of John Crone and in praying for Linda – for both her recovery from Covid and for her as we trust she will slowly regain her mental awareness.

Here are just two of the many books that John and Linda oversaw the translation, publishing and distribution of around the Globe:
